Kathoey (also called ladyboy) is a gender role in Thai culture which usually describes a feminine person who was assigned male at birth, although some kathoey are intersex. Kathoey may be referred to as a third gender.

Some kathoey indentify as transvestite men, while others describe themselves as 'a second kind of women' (loosely equivalent to trans women), but for some kathoey is seen as a non-binary identity.
